If you are in a caring role or have a family member with a challenging mental health issue, you will benefit from attending our Carer Support Program – Living With Mental Illness.
The program runs for three hours a week for eight weeks.
The Clinic offers six programs, each one designed around the illness that the person is suffering from:
Caring for a person with a psychotic illness
Caring for a person with depression
Family and Carer Support
Caring for a person with an anxiety disorder
Young Carers ( 12 to 17 year olds)
Caring for a person with dementia
Each program will cover education about the illness, its treatment, how it might affect family relationships, work/career and the importance of self-care.
The sessions are divided into three sections.
Part A: Each week will cover in depth a topic relevant to the experience of being a carer.
Refreshment/Networking Break: As well as having some refreshment this will be an important time for you to meet, and mix, with other people in a similar situation. This is a good way to feel supported.
Part B: This follows a workshop format and will be more interactive. Here you can bring the actual concerns you are experiencing and the types of difficulties you are facing. Our therapists can discuss with you some strategies that may be of help in your situation.
The Hobart Clinic runs these programs in partnership with the Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre.
