Assessment & Treatment
We treat a number of anxiety conditions with a combination of medication, individual and group therapy, including:
Generalised anxiety disorder, where the person may be constantly worrying about day to day issues and this is having a detrimental effect on their life.
Social anxiety and being unable to feel relaxed in social situations at work or at home.
Panic disorders, where the person has intense feelings of uncontrollable anxiety and may also experience physical symptoms such as shortness of breath.
Obsessive compulsive disorder, where the person aims to control their anxiety through repeated behaviours and rituals.
Post-traumatic stress disorder can occur when a person has experienced a traumatic event. They may find it hard to relax or have repeated flashbacks.
Our Doctors and Psychologists offer individual support and treatment.
Some people with anxiety may not require a hospital stay and Murray Street Clinic can be a good alternative. Group programs aim to change the patterns of how we think about things to be more realistic and to develop strategies to be less fearful.
Sometimes it may be necessary to have a short stay in hospital to undergo a comprehensive assessment and commence a treatment plan.
In addition to medication therapy, nursing and allied health staff will work with the patient on new ways of coping, learning to relax and developing a greater sense of awareness of their anxiety.
We utilise Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness as well as art therapy, exercise classes and relaxation.
Post Hospital Care
Post Hospital Care is an important part of the recovery journey.
Group Therapy Programs are conducted at The Hobart Clinic and at Murray Street Clinic and delivered by our team of psychologists. They focus on understanding anxiety and developing new ways of coping and strategies to relax.
