Day program or residential program
Depression can begin slowly or suddenly. Symptoms of depression include feeling sad or down most of the time or losing interest in activities you used to enjoy. You may want to withdraw from social or work activities, have trouble concentrating, and have negative thoughts about yourself. Depression can also cause physical symptoms like tiredness, headaches or stomach aches, and difficulty sleeping.
Depression will not get better on its own. If depression is affecting you, you will benefit from attending our Depression treatment program.
The key elements of this program are:
- Education about depression and what factors may have led to depression in your life. Usually there is a mix of factors, such as your life circumstances, genetics, recent events, and chemical or hormonal changes.
- Working with our clinical staff to talk about your individual needs, and to work out a treatment program that will help you.
- Stress management programs, learning a variety of ways you can reduce anxiety.
- Cognitive behaviour therapy, which teaches you how to modify negative thoughts that bring you down.
- Non-confrontational, feelings-based group therapy with a limit of eight people per group. This is a good way for you to feel supported while you are learning to make changes.
- Learning and practicing skills that will help you to manage your challenges better in the future.
- Learning ways to manage depression, identify warning signs and stay well.
Partners and family members can join some group sessions if appropriate.
A variety of clinical and therapeutic staff will assist you.
You can attend this program for as long as needed. After you complete the program, we can continue to help with follow-up plans and support.
