Women are at higher risk for depression than men, and can suffer from a range of anxiety-related conditions. Sometimes this coincides with changes in relationships with a partner or children, which can be stressful. You may want to withdraw from social or work activities, have trouble concentrating, and have negative thoughts about yourself. Depression can also cause physical symptoms like tiredness, headaches or stomach aches, and difficulty sleeping.
In addition, women in their forties who are pre-menopausal (have not yet been through menopause) begin to experience hormonal changes. These hormonal changes can make you feel depressed, worthless, or vulnerable; or irritable, aggressive or agitated.
Because there are many factors for women, we recommend one of our health professionals to help work out the right treatment plan for you. We have female psychiatrists on-site.
By getting a referral from your GP, you can talk with our doctors about treatment, and enroll in a Day program for anxiety, depression or another suitable program; or you can arrange a residential stay if recommended.
As well as receiving medical treatment and therapy sessions, a stay helps you to develop calming, healthy routines for yourself. Each room is a private room with ensuite.
Our in-house chefs make tasty, nutritious breakfasts and hot lunches and dinners every day. Part of the benefit of a residential stay includes helping you settle into regular patterns of eating and sleeping.
A typical program may include daily groups facilitated by nurses, psychiatrists or psychologists. These groups are a mix of education and feelings-based therapy.
You will also have time and space to relax, walk in our gardens, and enjoy
complementary therapies such as relaxation classes, art therapy, yoga or tai chi, massage, and reflexology.
Younger women may particularly be at risk for eating disorders, though these can affect anyone. Our clinical staff can assist with these conditions.
